DROP-IN/RESOURCE CENTRE

Women & gender-diverse folks can drop-in for safety, a snack, to warmup, access a washroom, a phone & resources, pick up menstrual & harm reduction supplies, and find/build community.

TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

NEWC’S Transitional Housing is a supportive environment for women & gender-diverse folks who are unsheltered and looking to participate in programs customized to their individual needs.  We have 6 furnished bedrooms and participants have access to: counselling, life skills workshops, advocates, Elders & knowledge keepers.

COMMUNITY HOUSING

This program looks to provide support for women & gender-diverse folks who are chronically, episodically or at risk of homelessness with opportunity for housing placement and skill development related to housing loss prevention, housing skills and life skill development.

UP SHOPPE: SOCIAL ENTERPRISE THRIFT SHOP

The Up Shoppe is a social enterprise of North End Women’s Centre. We accept donations of clothing to re-sell at a very reasonable cost to community; this profits NEWC programming, while simultaneously protecting the environment by reducing waste & resource consumption.

COORDINATED ACCESS

Access Point – A place where someone facing homelessness can find support; a place to access Naatamooskakkowin’s intake and sharing process; an agency that has “Sharing Team” staff using a shared information system.

COMMUNITY HEALING & WELLNESS

COUNSELLING

Our Counselling Program offers individual & drop-in counselling free of charge and open to all women & gender-diverse folks above the age of 18. We also offer sharing circles on grief, wellness & gender-based violence, as well as our popular Come As You Are substance use support group.

ADVOCATES

We have a number of Advocates helping participants navigate the child welfare system (CFS), eviction prevention, and other systems.

CULTURE & CEREMONY

Cultural identity is crucial for societal well-being as it fosters a sense of belonging, preserves heritage, and promotes social cohesion. NEWC cultural programming includes cultural activity workshops, community access to medicines, weekly drumming group, and ceremonies like the monthly full moon ceremony and quarterly solstice & equinox ceremonies.

This program supports participants to improve caregiving skills by providing one-on-one sessions with caregivers and groups.
